From Failing the Summit to Taking Charge of My Life

How failing changed my perspective of myself and my life

2024 was going to be the year of achieving everything I set out to do.

You see, in 2023, I had quite a few failures, but they were disguised as wins–at least to myself.

I competed in my first Brazilian Jiujitsu tournament and got a silver medal.

I ran my first half marathon and completed it six minutes short of my goal.

I competed for the second time in open-water swimming and ended in fourth place.

However, as the positive person that I am, I really took them as wins. After all, they were still pretty good challenges, all packed in a year. So, I didn’t count losing the gold, because “Hey, at least I was on the podium.”

Being six minutes slower than when my mom ran the marathon over 10 years ago is pretty good, right? And finishing fourth in an open water race with horrible weather was still no small feat.

However, deep down, I knew something wasn’t quite right.

And the last three months of 2023 were actually my worst in years.
